14 WELCOME TAHIR PILLAY Tahir Pillay, the new Chair of Communications and Publications Division Executive Committee of the IFCC, is Chief Specialist, Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Pathology, University of Pretoria and National Health Laboratory service, Steve Biko Academic Hospital and Director of the Division of Clinical Pathology and Clinical Pathology training programme, Pretoria, South Africa. He graduated MBChB cum laude from the University of Natal, South Africa in the 1980s. He received a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge and completed his postgraduate training at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London and postdoctoral training at the University of California San Diego. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and the College of Pathologists, South Africa. He is currently discipline editor for the London-based Journal of Clinical Pathology and a member of the International Committee of the Royal College of Pathologists, London as well as being country advisor to the Royal College of Pathologists.
